FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between digital and offset printing?

Offset Printing uses full colour (CMYK), Special Colours (PMS) and varnish inks on plates, to transfer images and text onto paper. Offset printing is high quality and cost effective for large sizes and print runs.

Digital printing on the other hand uses toner to print in full colour (CMYK) but not Special Colours (PMS). However, the benefit of digital printing is that for short runs it is much more economical as there are no set up costs such as plates. Digital printing is quicker as it can be printed without the time associated with setting up offset machines and the toner is already fused so it does not take long to dry. Digital printing also gives the advantage of allowing you to personalise your collateral with each individual piece tailored to the respondent.

As a general rule, larger quantities are more suited to offset printing and smaller quantities that are needed in a faster turnaround suit digital printing. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, talk to your Scotts representative to work out what is right for you.

What should I consider in my next print run?

The first question we ask is ‘what are you doing with the finished product’, ie Is it going to be mailed? What is the target audience? What is its longevity? Considering project result helps us determine the best options for you, for example if it’s mailed, is it under 500g? If not, you will be paying a lot more for postage. If it’s only a short term project, can we look at a smaller digital run?

We think of your project as far more than a quote and a printed piece, we work with you to make sure that it hits the objectives of your campaign. Our goal is to add value and give a touch of our expertise to do out bit to make your project a success.
